Many people across the globe have been experiencing higher levels of stress and anxiety. The past two years have caused feelings of uncertainty, stress and fear due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Life Resolutions’ Director, Jodie Brenton and Principal Psychologist Mary Magalotti want to inform the public on the facts of anxiety concerning the pandemic and where you can get help.

Anxiety and COVID-19

There are have been many initial studies conducted to understand the effects of the pandemic on mental health, particularly anxiety. One study published in Globalization and Health found that approximately 32% of people were experiencing symptoms of anxiety in the UK, this is an estimated increase of 25%. Studies have found that those aged between 21-40 are more likely to experience COVID-19 related anxiety.

Symptoms of Anxiety

Knowing and understanding the symptoms of anxiety is important, for yourself and those around you.

Some symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Constant worrying
  • Constant worry about developing and frequent checking for symptoms
  • Feeling agitated
  • Tense muscles and increased heart rate
  • You struggle to focus on anything other than the present worry
